Write A Letter

in Support of Nicole Daedone and Rachel Cherwitz

Thank you for saying yes to writing a letter

How to write a support letter:

These letters are of utmost importance and will be considered by the judge as she decides the length of their sentence.

Your letter will be delivered first to our organizing team, then to their lawyers, and finally submitted to the judge. These letters can make a real impact on the length of the sentence. Below are instructions on how they can be most impactful. I’m sure you can agree in a time when it feels so helpless it feels so good to have something that can make a difference.

You will need to write 1 or 2 letters, either or both Nicole and Rachel. If you write for both, each letter must be unique and specific to the individual. Their lawyers say letters that simply repeat the same language for both people will not be taken seriously.

Each letter must be submitted separately using the form provided.

What Makes an Effective Letter

Your letter should contain these 6 things:

1. A brief but specific description of who you are and what you do for a living.

The point here is to provide a clear sense of your background so your observations carry weight with the judge. If you have credentials, degrees, or hold a position of responsibility, state it directly. (This part can be copied and used for both letter is you want to support both Nicole and Rachel)

2. A specific description of how long you have known Nicole or Rachel, and the specific ways you have gotten to know them. The judge needs to know how you know them and how well you know them.

3. That you are aware they have been convicted of conspiracy to force labor.

4. The letter should describe, in very specific ways, the things you have seen Nicole or Rachel do that cause you to speak well of them. The more concrete and detailed, the better. Interactions that you observed which exemplify their character

5. The positive impact that Nicole and/or Rachel’s SPIRITUAL beliefs, philosophies and teachings had on you and your spiritual growth

6. Way that you felt free and at choice and like an adult at OneTaste, especially as a woman

Other area’s that are helpful:

  1. The positive impact of your one on one interactions with Rachel/Nicole

  2. Your experiences with Nicole/Rachel in areas that relate to their qualities as a person, such as decency, personal integrity, compassion, generosity, commitment to family and friend

  3. The positive impact that Nicole and/or Rachel’s instruction to you in the OM practice had on you

Things to avoid:

  • Do not say, or in any way imply, that Nicole or Rachel can’t be guilty, or that the offense of which they have been convicted is not serious, however strongly you might feel that.

  • Do not try to disprove any allegations you heard from the trial or in the media. You only need to speak to the positive impact of Rachel/Nicole on your life.

  • Do not use Eros jargon or concepts. Stick to concrete personal examples.

  • Do not end the letter by asking the judge to give any particular sentence.

  • Do not be general. What counts are specific, detailed examples of your experiences with Nicole or Rachel. Don’t worry about being too lengthy, as long as you are being specific.
